Things You'll Need:
- avocados (1 large or 2 small)
- tomatos (1 large or 2 small)
- onion (1 small)
- salt
- pepper
- splash of tabasco sauce
- sprinkle of cilantro (optional)
- squeeze of lemon (optional)
-
Step 1
The most important step to this Cinco de Mayo Guacamole recipe is choosing an avocado. Guacamole is mainly avocado, so it is absolutely essential to choose one that's ripe but not overripe. The skin should be soft and easy to squeeze, but not mushy. You'll get better at choosing avocados (and therefore making this guacamole dip) with practice.
-
Step 2
Chop up the avocado into small pieces. For a more salsa-like guacamole recipe, finely mash the avocado with a fork. For a more salad-like recipe, chop the avocado into small cubes.
-
Step 3
Dice the tomatoes and stir with guacamole. Chop the onion (red onion is best for color) and stir with guacamole. You can add more or less tomato and onion to the recipe, depending on your preferences.
-
Step 4
Stir in salt and pepper to the guacamole to taste. If you like a spicier recipe, add a splash of Tabasco sauce. If you like the taste, sprinkle in fresh cilantro. Cilantro can also serve as a lovely garnish for your Cinco de Mayo guacamole recipe.
-
Step 5
Serve guacamole dip with tortilla chips, tacos, fajitas, wraps, sandwiches, etc. Guacamole tastes great on everything, and even better on Cinco de Mayo!

on 4/11/2009 It's so true that you need the right avocado for a nice guacamole. And cilantro makes ALL the difference. Have you tried it with lime instead of lemon? Serve with margaritas? What time's the party? Ha ha
