How to Select a Stroller if You Live in the Country

If you live in a rural area, your baby's stroller will have be compatible with your lifestyle and environment. Here are some features to look for in the perfect country stroller.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Look for a stroller that is easy to steer, even on rough or uneven ground. Ideally, the stroller will have double wheels that swivel, at least at the front.
Step2
Find a stroller with sturdy all-terrain wheels, especially if you will be walking in an area with no sidewalks.
Step3
Check the brakes. You should be able to brake the stroller with one hand or foot, without bending down, even if you are moving fairly quickly.
Step4
Notice the weight. Is the stroller light enough to go where you want it to go? Will it sink into soft or muddy ground?
Step5
Look for weatherproofing. Does the stroller have a canopy to protect your baby from sun and wind? Can you buy a clear plastic rain shield to fit the stroller?
Step6
Get a stroller with both reclining and upright positions, so that your child can nap while you walk.
Step7
Check the height of the handles or handlebar. You should be able to walk behind the stroller comfortably without slouching or kicking the tires. If other members of the family are extremely tall, look for handlebar extensions.
Step8
Examine the storage area. Is it big enough to hold baby supplies, extra blankets and anything else you might bring along? Is the storage area low, making the stroller less likely to tip over?
Step9
Think about transportation. If you'll have to carry the stroller in and out of your vehicle frequently, make sure that it is easy to fold, lightweight and fairly flat when folded.

Tips & Warnings

  • Attach small toys to the stroller with plastic links or pacifier clips, which will keep the toys out of the dirt and within your baby's reach.
  • A rolled-up baby blanket makes a great pillow for babies who want to sit up and look around but are too little to support themselves.
  • If you will be walking at dawn or twilight, be sure to equip your stroller with reflective material, especially if you walk on streets without sidewalks.
  • Don't forget your baby's hat and sunscreen. A small child can get sunburned easily over the course of a long walk, even on a bright winter day.

on 11/22/2005 You can also do your readings on the floor, unless you have stone or wood floors (real stuff) I recommend putting a blanket or something down where you will be doing your readings that is made with either silk, wool, cotton or linen with little or no designs in. The best colors are black, dark blue or purple. I also have a corner in my house just for readings so I don't have to put all my stuff away when I'm done and I can keep it decorated!
