Step 1
Get a grocery club card. The easiest way to save money on groceries without coupons is to sign up for a club card. Get bonus cards at every grocery store in your area. Most grocery stores make it simple to get a club card by requesting one at the customer service desk. If you don't take advantage of the card you'll be missing out on lots of grocery deals.
-
Step 2
Only buy groceries you needKeep a running grocery list. By writing things down as you run out of them, you won't forget anything at the grocery store. When you shop with a list you're also less likely to make impulse purchases or buy things you don't need which jack up your grocery bill.
-
Step 3
Save on groceriesLook through the grocery circulars and plan your weekly menu around what's on sale. Grocery circulars advertise what's on sale, so you can get the items at discount without using grocery coupons. Compare your grocery list with store sales. Jot down what the sale price is, the brand and how many you need to buy to get the sale price. (If you're going to more than one store, write the store name, too). Grocery store circulars will also help you save money by helping you stock up on items when they're on sale. Even if you're not completely out of the item, if it's on sale, and you have room to store it, buy it. For instance if chicken is buy one get one free pick up chicken breasts and skip the full price pork. Get that next week when it's on sale for half price.
-
Step 4
Be willing to shop at several grocery stores. If you're not going to clip coupons, but you still want to save money, you'll have to seek out the deals. This may mean hitting more than one grocery store for your weekly trip. Only go to more than one store, though, if the deals that you find in the grocery circular, are too good to pass up AND if it's more than one item. It doesn't make sense to run to a second store just to save .49 on a gallon of milk. You'll waste time and money making the trip. Always be sure to consider the time vs the money savings.
-
Step 5
Store brand items are generally less expensive than name brands. It's always worth giving store brand items a try. If you don't like the taste or quality then switch back to the name brand. Be careful when buying store brands though...sometimes the sale price of a name brand item is actually cheaper then store brand's regular price.
-
Step 6
Save money: buy in bulk.Buy in bulk. You'll save money without grocery coupons if you buy items in bulk. Compare the unit price of items to see if it's worth buying the large quantity for a little more money. Split meat and freeze it for multiple meals or store large quantities of paper products in the garage. Just make sure the larger variety will be used and not wasted, otherwise it's not saving you any money.
-
Step 7
Use rebates instead of grocery couponsIf you don't want to clip grocery coupons look for rebate offers. If a product, that you don't normally use, is offering a significant rebate, try it instead of the product your normally buy. Just be sure you get the rebate back or it won't count as saving money.
