Things You'll Need:
- Storage boxes
- Plastic hanging bags
- A little time
- Local charity to donate to.
-
Step 1
Take out your winter clothes and separate them into piles.Take out all of your heavy winter clothes including sweaters and suits. Put your winter clothes into three piles: What to keep, what to give away, and what to throw away.
-
Step 2
Store your winter clothes in plastic to keep them fresh and dust free.Put the winter clothes that you want to keep such as pants and dress suits, jackets and heavy winter coats in a plastic hanging bag. (You can use garbage bags if you wish but the see through hanging bags that you can get at almost any store are nice.) Place sweaters, turtlenecks, pants and other clothing that folds nicely in storage containers or boxes and put them on a top shelf, linen closet, on the floor in the corner of you closet or under a bed for spring and summer storage.
-
Step 3
Donate clothes you don't wear to local shelters and charities.Throw away clothes that are tattered and are unusable, or you may cut them to use them for cleaning rags. Box up clothes that you have not worn all season or that are too small or big for you and give them to a local shelter or charity (you can even document your donations for a tax break!).
-
Step 4
Store boots and winter shoes.Take your boots and winter shoes and put them into shoe boxes or a large plastic tote. Remember not to "squish" or "cram" the shoes in but lightly stack them. You may consider putting dryer sheets or a small box of baking soda in the tote with the shoes and boots to keep them "fresh".
-
Step 5
Get out your spring and summer shoes!Take out your sandles and springtime shoes and place them in your shoe organizer or in the front of your closet.
-
Step 6
Freshen up your spring clothes for wear.Take out your spring clothes. Go through the clothes and follow the same steps to decide what you want to keep, give away or throw away. Take the spring clothes you want to keep and either hang them outside or air fluff them in a dryer with a dryer sheet to "freshen" them.
-
Step 7
Be ready for springtime fashion!Hang up your clothes and be ready for springtime fashion!
