Anyone who's ever suffered from migraine headaches knows that the pain can be nearly intolerable. Luckily, there are some things that you can do to get migraine headache relief and alleviate some of the pain.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

First and foremost, see your doctor. This is to ensure that your migraine headaches are not indicative of a bigger problem. Another reason that a doctor's visit should be your first step in getting migraine headache relief. This is so you can discuss the different prescription medications available. You need to talk to your doctor about what options are available, what are any contra-indicators, and what are possible side effects.

  2. Step 2

The next step in achieving migraine headache relief is early intervention. Many times, you can feel a migraine coming on. If this is the case, take the following measures (if possible): lie down in a dark quiet room, take the phone off the hook and turn the TV off. Oftentimes, when people suffer from migraine headaches they find themselves unable to tolerate light, sound and smell so try to remove yourself from as much external stimuli as possible.

  3. Step 3

Try drinking a strong cup of coffee. Unfortunately, depending on the severity of your migraine, any food or drink might just make you nauseous. Still experiment by drinking a cup of coffee the next time you're seeking migraine headache relief as the caffeine can often help alleviate some of the pain. Caffeine can also help when taken with your migraine headache medication, as it expedites the medicine through your system.

  4. Step 4

Try massage. Sometimes migraine headaches can be brought on by muscle stress in the shoulders and neck. Again, this may or ma not work for you, as some people cannot tolerate being touched when they're suffering from a migraine headache. It is still a method worth trying however, the next time you're trying to get migraine headache relief. You can also try experimenting with some essential oils to help with the process.
