Things You'll Need:
- Painting canvases
- Fabric
- Staple gun
-
Step 1
Plan. Look at the space in which you will be hanging your wall tapestry. Do you want one large tapestry or do you want to make wall tapestries that are grouped together? What color scheme will work in your space?
-
Step 2
Buy a painting canvas. Go to a paint supply or craft store and find a blank canvas that fits your space. Canvases come in many different sizes, shapes, and thicknesses. If you decided in Step 1 to hang a few wall tapestries, buy 3 or 4 depending on the configuration you decide on.
-
Step 3
Pick your fabric. If your room is filled with bright, patterned fabrics, you might want to opt for a neutral toned tapestry fabric. If your room is neutral, buy a brighter, patterned tapestry fabric. Buy enough fabric to cover each tapestry plus about 6 inches around the edge of each canvas.
-
Step 4
Cut your fabric so that the canvas sits facedown in the middle of the back side of the fabric with 6 inches of extra fabric around the edges. Using the staple gun, begin folding and stapling the fabric back. Do each corner first, then do the sides, much like you would wrap a present, until the entire canvas is covered.
-
Step 5
Add some flair. Buy some coordinating tassles, staple them to the top of the tapestry, and drape them down the sides. Or, hang a decorative window treatment pole and finials above the wall tapestry and drape the tassles around the pole and down the sides. If you decide to make wall tapestries that are grouped together, be creative! Use different, coordinating colors. Group them together, or scatter them around the room.
