How to Make a Homemade Earring Holder

If your jewelry box is bursting at the seams with earrings, make a homemade earring holder to handle the overflow. With a few basic craft supplies, you can create a decorative earring holder to sit on a dresser or to hang on a wall or the back of a door. Beginning craft artists can easily make an earring holder for post or fishhook style pierced earrings or for clip-on earrings.

Instructions

  1. Frame

    • 1

Remove the glass from a wooden picture frame. Insert pairs of screw-in cup hooks around the facing perimeter of the frame. The cup hooks will hold fishhook style earrings.

    • 2

Cut two 6-inch lengths of 3/8-inch wide ribbon. Glue one end of each ribbon to the back of the frame, along the bottom edge, with a hot glue gun. The ribbon should hang beneath the picture frame to hold clip-on earrings and post earrings.

    • 3

Hang the frame on the wall or on the back of a door in your dressing area.

    Wire

    • 4

Cut a block of dry floral foam with a serrated knife to fit inside of a small flower pot. Place the foam inside the pot.

    • 5

Cut eight 16-inch long strands of 22-gauge craft wire. Bend one end of each wire into a loop. Beginning at the loops, crease each wire with round nose pliers every 2 inches along a 10 inch span of wire. The creases help hold fishhook earrings and clip earrings on the strands.

    • 6

Insert the straight end of the wires into the floral foam inside the flower pot. Bend the strands so that they curve to the left and to the right as they exit the pot.

    • 7

Cover the top of the floral foam with decorative stones. Clip and hang the earrings on the wires and from the end loops.

    Ribbon

    • 8

Unroll 2 feet of 3/8-inch wide ribbon from the spool. Glue the end of the ribbon to a wire hanger on the twisted wire just beneath the hook with hot glue.

    • 9

Wrap the ribbon around the frame of a wire hanger to cover the wire. Overlap the ribbon edges as you go. Unroll more ribbon from the spool as necessary. Glue the end of the ribbon to the hanger at the base of the hook.

    • 10

Cut four 12-inch long strands of 3/8-inch wide ribbon. Hot glue one end of each ribbon strand to the base wire of the hanger so that the ribbons hang below the hanger. Space the ribbon strands evenly.

    • 11

Attach post-style and clip-on earrings to the dangling ribbon strands. Hang fishhook earrings to the hanger wire between the ribbon strands.
