Queen Bee Syndrome occurs when a female boss attempts to ruin and control the female employees she supervises as a way to stay on top. It affects the overall success of the company and can lead to unfair and unhealthy consequences for the targeted employee.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Strength
  • Power
  • Documented attacks
  1. Step 1

The first thing to do when attempting to combat the Queen Bee syndrome is to start documenting everything. Every negative remark, every attempt to pull you down and every inappropriate behavior made by the Queen Bee should be documented and reported to Human Resources. The Queen Bee relies on the weakness and fear of those she attempts to control and most workers end up quitting without saying a word. The best thing you can do for yourself and the women around you is speak up.

  2. Step 2

When the boss suffering from Queen Bee Syndrome disrespects you in front of your peers, respond publicly. If, for example, the tone and language of the Queen Bee is offensive when she asks you to do something for her NOW, explain that you will be happy to do it for her however you do not appreciate the tone of her voice or the way she asked you. Calling the Queen Bee out in front of others may make her angry, but it consistent calling out will prove to be a great way to take her down.

  3. Step 3

Do not give up or let the person suffering from Queen Bee Syndrome take control of you. You are bigger than her, and in all actuality she is a sad person with significant issues, making herself feel like her life is important by obtaining success in the workplace through control. Think about how much happier you must be than her and feel bad for her instead of angry - the Queen Bee isn't worth it.

Tips & Warnings
  • Focus on your job not on the Queen Bee.
  • If things don't change and the company supports the Queen Bee's behavior, move on to a place that appreciates you.
  • Be sure to speak your mind about the situation should you decide to leave.
  • Never raise your voice or stoop to the Queen Bee's level.
  • Don't let the Queen Bee's actions impede into your personal life.
