How to Create a Black and White Photo With a Focal Point Color

Have you ever seen those pictures where everything Is black and white except for one part like a hat,dress,or headband? They look so pretty and are great for your myspace profile or facebook and I am going to tell you how to create it.

Things You'll Need

• a photo from your computer
• internet connection

Instructions

1. There are two ways to do this either online, I prefer picnik.com, or by downloading GIMP, GNU Image Manipulation Program. You can download gimp at www.gimp.org.

2. Using picnik you just upload a picture and to the right of your photo you will see different options for editing your photo, what you want is the focal black and white, click it and click on the part of your picture that you want black and white. I think it comes out a lot nicer with GIMP because you pick the parts that you want color but it is a little harder to use.

3. 

   Once you download GIMP, open the program, then go to file and click open and find your photo that you want to edit and open it. Next go to the layer tab and click duplicate layer. To your right you will see a layers box, in the box click on the eye on the first photo, next go to the colors tab and choose colorify from the bottom of the list and click on the color white, this will make your photo black and white. Next, go to the layers tab across the top and click on transparency, then click add alpha channel. Next go to the tools and click the eraser tool pick a small circle and begin erasing the part of the picture that you want in color, it erases the top black and white layer unveiling your color one underneath... And that's it, that is how you create a beautiful photo.

Tips & Warnings

• save a backup copy of your original photo.

• Don't go overboard with the color, that is why its a focal black and white, its made to make one thing stand out.

• Looks really sharp to do this to pics of flowers.
