  1. Step 1
    Smooth!
    Smooth!

Scrub your whole body using a good, natural body scrub, the day before going tanning. This process gets rid of all the dead skin cells, that cause your tan to flake off fast and make it look blotchy.

  2. Step 2
    Put On Lotion
    Put On Lotion

Put on moisturizer after scrubbing off all of the dead skin cells. Make sure to get every part of your body moisturized well, because the softer and smoother you skin is, the better and easier your tan will go on your body.

  3. Step 3
    Pick the Right One!
    Pick the Right One!

If tanning outdoors, buy yourself an outdoor tan maximizing lotion. If tanning in a tanning bed, make sure you get one specifically designed for a tanning salon. Apply the tan maximizing lotion all over your body evenly. Be sure to rub in the lotion very smoothly and completely. Otherwise it will leave blotchy marks all over your skin.

  4. Step 4
    Thsi Could Be You!
    Thsi Could Be You!

Right after tanning, moisturize your skin again, only this time with regular lotion. It is crucial to keep your skin soft and silky, because dry skin flakes easily, and makes your tan come off much faster than you want it to!!! Also, don't shower for a couple of hours after tanning, to let your tan and lotion to sink in your skin completely!

Tips & Warnings
  • Always apply the right amount of lotions and tan maximizers specifically for your body!!! Everyone is different so you never know how much one may need to get a certain amount of tan.
  • Don't overexpose yourself to the sunlight, or the UV rays in the tanning bed. It may cause premature skin aging, skin disorders, and even skin cancer!

on 4/6/2009 Great tips. I'm so fair that I skip the tanning outside and bed all together. I'm paranoid about skin cancer BUT these tips would have come in handy back in my tanning days. Thanks!
