on 5/21/2009 Ticks should NOT be removed this way. Messing with the tick by applying Vaseline, nail polish, soap, etc. may actually cause it to regurgitate its stomach contents into the host and thus increases the likelihood of disease transmission. The correct way to remove a tick is to use a small tipped tweezers and grip the tick as close to the skin as possible. Then gently but firmly pull the tick straight out. Do not crush the body, do not twist the tick out, and do not handle the tick with your fingers.
