Starting a car wash business has very little startup cost, but it can be very profitable for teens. Most of your supplies can be brought at the Dollar store. My kids started one last summer and made $100 dollars every Saturday for only 4 hours of work.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Towels
  • Sponges
  • Bucket
  • Car wash shampoo
  • Tire cleaner
  • Window cleaner
  • Water Source
  • Note: Additional products may be needed if you're cleaning the inside of cars.
  1. Step 1

Advertise in a big way. Write signs pointing to your front yard with the words Summer Job: Teen Car Wash. Go door to door in your neighborhood soliciting your neighbors business. If they don't want it washed right at that time, ask them when it would be a good time to wash their car. Setup an appointment and also establish a dialog about washing their car once a week for repeat business. When advertising, remember to treat this business like a garage sale. You might even consider posting an ad on Craigslist. In the ad write out a set date and time frame for the service. (Please see article: How to find teen jobs under 16. http://www.ehow.com/how_4861160_jobs-teens-under.html)

  2. Step 2

Pricing. Don't make your prices too high. You have to be more affordable then the professional car wash service. My kids charged $10 dollars for cars and $15 dollars for trucks. There price was for outside wash only.

  3. Step 3

Employees. If you have siblings ask them to help with your business. If not, ask a friend to help. Don't ask too many people because this might hurt your profits. General 2 people can wash one car, and 2-3 people could wash one truck.

  4. Step 4

Profits. After the work is all done, it is now time to calculate your profits. To calculate your profits, Take your earnings and subtract it by your future material cost and/or start up cost. The rest of the money is yours and your partners to split. Enjoy yourself and Good Luck on your business.
