Making refried beans doesn't have to be as hard as its made out to be. This is how to make them when you haven't had them soaking overnight.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • bag of pinto beans
  • fairly good sized pot
  • Seasonings of your choice
  1. Step 1

Pour all the beans out onto your counter or cutting board, or even in just a bowl. Sort them out, watch for any rocks or bad beans and when you come across any, toss them out.

  2. Step 2

Next, Rinse the beans well with water. Pour the beans in the pot and fill with water until the water line is about 2 inches over the beans.

  3. Step 3

Bring to a boil, then you can turn it down a little. Keep checking the water level and replenish it as needed. Boil for 2 1/2 to 3 hours. *do not add salt within the first 2 hours as it toughens the beans and they will not soften!*

  4. Step 4

When they are done(soft), pour them in a frying pan with about 1/4 cup of water. Mash them with a potato masher or a fork if thats all you have. Keep cooking until they are the consistancy that you want. This is the time to add any seasonings, etc. (our favorites are onions, salt and garlic salt, but you can use anything you'd like.) And viola! you've got yourself some refried beans!
