If you can’t find something free to give away, you’ll need to purchase something. Gift cards are a popular giveaway. Think of this as advertising costs. If you want people to visit your blog, you have to entice them with a reward.

Write your post about the giveaway. Ask visitors to post a comment as their entry.

Tell visitors that they can earn extra entries by publicizing your giveaway on their own blog, social media websites like Twitter or Facebook, groups and forums, and bookmarking sites like Stumble Upon and Digg. This serves two purposes. First you are encouraging visitors to advertise your contest on high traffic sites. Second, you will have many other sites linking back to your blog which increases your Google ranking and your traffic.

Advertise your giveaway. Post your giveaway on Twitter and make sure you use the words giveaway, free, and contest. Millions of people search for these terms on Twitter seeking out contests. Also advertise your contest on Facebook, relevant forums, MySpace, Digg, Stumble Upon, and other social media sites. Post your giveaway on blogs that compile weekly giveaways such as MoneySavingMom, DealSeekingMom, and MomGiveAways. Thousands of readers check those sites every week for new giveaways.

Post giveaways often on your blog. You want your readers to return for more contests later!
