Things You'll Need:
- A dozen hardboiled eggs
- Your choice of Food Coloring
- A few plastic cups
- Water
- White vinegar
- A spoon
- (Optional) Newspaper
- (Optional) White Crayon
-
Step 1
Food coloring can be found in the baking aisle of your local grocery store.First, cover the area you are going to be working in with newspaper. Set out the plastic cups and fill them with 3/4 cup hot water and 1 tablespoon of white vinegar. After that, pull out the food coloring and put approximately 15-20 drops of food coloring in each cup (more or less depending on if you would like a darker or lighter color). Stir each cup to evenly distribute the coloring. Cool looking huh? Remember, your can mix colors to make your own custom colors - let your imagination roam free!
-
Step 2
I love the deep, darker colors!Grab those eggs and a spoon! To prevent splashing, (unless, of course, you want to end up looking like an Easter Egg!) put the egg on the spoon and slowly lower it into the food coloring. Let the egg enjoy its 'bath' for as long as you'd like - some color will stick immediately but the longer you leave the egg in the coloring mixture the deeper and darker the color will be.
-
Step 3
After you've got the color you want, use a spoon to carefully remove the eggs from the coloring mixture and place it back in the egg carton. Repeat steps until all your eggs are colored. Voila! You have just created a cheerful & festive addition to your Easter celebration.
-
Step 4
I loved doing this as a kid - you never knew what your design would end up looking like!If you're feeling adventurous, try this step. Before placing the egg into the coloring mixture, grab a white crayon and let you kids draw different designs all over the crayons. Then place egg into the mixture. The color will not 'stick' to the crayon wax and you'll end up with a totally unique egg. You can write each child's name on an egg for a personal touch!
