Things You'll Need:
- Boots or good shoes that protect your feet.
- Sunscreen, or protection from cold
- A hat with brim, or a riding helmet can be provided by some outfitters.
- Small camera
- Water bottle
- Insect spray
-
Step 1
Who is going? Discuss who can ride, and who really wants to ride. This sounds easy, but talk it over and make sure they really want this. Also find out who has ridden before and what type of ride everyone wants. If one person has never been on a horse, and the others want to ride fast, you may not want to ride together. Some outfitters have a group minimum, but Widowmaker Trail rides does not.

Step 2
When can you go? During nice weather, most outfitters will be busy, so make arrangements early. Campalexander.com has contact info and times.

Step 3
Arrive 15 minutes early, and let your wrangler know about your riding experience. I look for 3 levels: Beginner, Novice, or Experienced. A novice has done a few rides, but may not be ready to gallop. Your wrangler will explain how to ride, and all the safety requirements.

Step 4
Riding the horse. Attitude is your most important tool when riding a horse. You have to convey to your horse that you are in charge and the horse is not allowed to make ANY decisions. Never let your horse speed up unless you gave him a clear cue to speed up. Dont ride up beside another rider without telling the other rider first so they can hold their horse back.
