Step 1
Spring Loaded Capo~ Decide on the Type of Capo You Need ~
There are two main types of guitar capos available. The first is called a c-clamp capo. They are easy to use and usually the least expensive. They actually screw onto the guitar, so if you want to quickly change keys during a song or between songs, this may not be the best option.
The other type is called a spring-loaded capo. Because they are spring loaded, they are perfect for players who would like to change keys quickly - even during the middle of a song. -
Step 2
~ Try Out The Guitar Capo to See if it Affects Your Sound Quality ~
Sometimes, using a capo can make your guitar sound like it's out of tune. If possible, test them out before you buy them or make sure that there is a return policy so you can bring it back if your sound quality is affected. -
Step 3
~ Pay Attention to the Lever or Handle ~
Sometimes a handle will stick up and cause problems when you try to play. Before you commit to a capo, make sure that you check to make sure it doesn't get in the way of your playing ability. -
Step 4
~ Pay Attention to the Edges ~
You want to make sure that the edges of any capo you buy will not scratch your guitar, so pay close attention to how it attaches to your instrument. -
Step 5
Cut Capo~ Look at a Cut Capo if you only want to Change the Keys of Some Strings ~
Most guitarists use a standard capo that clamps down on all strings. However, if you want to only clamp down on a string or two at a time, you'll want t choose a cut capo instead.
