Step 1
Eat at Zankou Chicken! There are locations in Hollywood, West Los Angeles, Van Nuys, and Glendale. The ever-popular quarter dark or white chicken plates are under $7 and come with hummus, pickled radish, salad, pita bread, and garlic paste. Extra pita bread and garlic paste are free! Peruse the menu for other cheap dishes like the Falafel a la carte! And remember, it's cash only and expect a line at this Mediterranean counter-service restaurant.
-
Step 2
Stop in to any Ralph's grocery store! There are Ralph's stores all over Los Angeles. For under $6, you can get a basket of eight pieces of chicken that two people can easily share! Don't have anyone to share it with? Then take it home and eat the second half later! That's two meals at $3 each! Why not get some scalloped potatoes while you're there? Only $2 plus change per 1/2 lb!!
-
Step 3
Go to Koreatown Plaza Food Court! On the bottom floor of K-Town Plaza on Western and 9th, you'll find the eatery with loads of Korean and other Asian foods to choose from. Gamja Bawi is the counter directly in front of you as you enter the food court. They have excellent meals for $6-$8 that come with kimchi (spicy cabbage, a Korean staple), soup, steamed rice, and two other side dishes, usually spinach and daikon! What a deal!
-
Step 4
Hit Sanjang Coffee Garden on Virgil and 1st on the western edge of Silver Lake! This cafe has hearty cold sandwiches that come with salad and a drink for under $8! Also, it has ramen, spicy or not spicy, for under $7! Although refills are free for most drink orders, the coffee is quite expensive. They compensate pretty well though with free wifi and fantastic ambiance. The firepit is lit every night as the sun goes down and they have chenille blankets for the customers on the chillier nights of L.A.! And you can stay all day and all night until closing, which is 2am!
-
Step 5
Get a tasty burger for cheap! Feryanos Restaurant in Beverly Hills has quarter pound burgers for under $6! The turkey burger is particularly good! And the regular burger is under five bucks! Ask for the Thousand Island dressing on the side if you aren't sure if you'd like it!
-
Step 6
Taste a yummy burrito from Lucy's! On La Brea and Pico, you'll find this popular Mexican and American drive-through restaurant. Their burritos are large, stuffed, and only $5! And they come with free nachos and salsa! (A word of advice: when ordering, make certain to detail every ingredient you want in your burrito or they might leave it out!) They also have burgers for $2-$4 and combo plates for $7-$8!
