Angels are one of the most popular of decorator accent themes. A great way to incorporate them into your bedroom or living room is by sewing a country style angel pillow cover. You can make this pillow cover in any size or color combination.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Country pattern calico cotton fabric
  • Fusible webbing
  • Embroidery floss
  • Buttons or other trim
  1. Step 1

When making any pillow cover, the first step is always measuring the pillow that you are planning to use. After measuring, you can cut out your base fabric color. This should be a solid color cotton fabric that matches your country style decor. Be sure to make the bottom piece about 2 inches longer than necessary. The top piece should have an extra six inches in length.

  2. Step 2

After cutting out the two squares or rectangles, you are ready to sew the country style angel onto the front side of it. First, choose the calico fabric you will use for the angel’s wings, face and hands, and gown.

  3. Step 3

Cutting out basic shapes, such as a truncated triangle for the gown and a circle for the head, are best for this whimsical country style pillow cover. Be sure to layer the fusible webbing with the calico fabric when you cut out the shapes.

  4. Step 4

After the shapes are cut, follow the manufacturer’s directions to iron the calico fabric onto the plain pillow case fabric with the fusible web in the middle.

  5. Step 5

Once the basic angel shapes are fused to the country style pillow cover, it is time to get really creative. Using the embroidery floss, or even narrow ribbon or yarn, stitch on the angel’s face and any decorations on her gown or wings. You should also stitch the country angel’s halo over her head. It is also important to stitch around the entire outside and inside edges of the fabric you attached with the fusible webbing.

  6. Step 6

To further decorate the pillow cover, you can embroider of cross stitch flowers, butterflies, or any other designs that you wish.

  7. Step 7

Once the decoration is complete, turn the pieces of fabric so that their good sides face each other and stitch around three sides. The extra two inches on the bottom should be hemmed around the outside to provide a neat edge. The extra six inches on the top should be treated in the same way.

  8. Step 8

Then, stitch in three or four buttonholes on the top flap, depending on the size of the pillow. Stitch large buttons onto the bottom fabric in the appropriate spot. This way, you will have a neat but removable pillow case that can be washed.
