Things You'll Need:
- white vinegar
- lemon juice
- baking soda
- olive oil
- old clothes/rags
- spray bottle
- Simple Green or Seventh Generation cleaning products
-
Step 1
Instead of buying sponges, paper towels, and special cleaning wipes, use old clothes for cleaning rags. By tearing up old clothes to use for rags you will be cleaning out your closet, saving money, recycling, and going green.
-
Step 2
Use white vinegar for your spring cleaning this year. White vinegar is really cheap and very effective. Mix a cup of vinegar with a gallon of water. Adjust the vinegar to water ratio depending on how grimy or greasy the surface is that you are cleaning. You can use the vinegar solution to mop the floors, as well as clean bathroom and kitchen surfaces. For easier use, put your vinegar solution in a spray bottle.
-
Step 3
If you don’t like the smell of vinegar, there are plenty of other green products that are just as effective that you can use for spring cleaning. Try combining lemon juice with water to create another grease-cutting solution that smells really nice. Baking soda dissolved in warm water also makes an effective cleaning solution.
-
Step 4
Make your own green furniture polish this spring by combining a cup of oil with 1/3 cup lemon juice or white vinegar.
-
Step 5
You can also buy green cleaning products that are very effective and safe to use. Cleaning products, such as Simple Green, are biodegradable, non-toxic, and a much safer alternative to toxic cleaners. Seventh Generation also has a line of green cleaning products.
-
Step 6
There are dozens of green cleaning products available at the store, and many more that you can easily make at home. Use green products for your spring cleaning this year, and know that you are doing your part to preserve and care for our environment, so that we can enjoy spring for years to come.
