1. Consider the boy in question: Does he like music? Taking things apart? Computer games? Reading?
2. Look for a gift that's likely to mesh with his interests. Talk to a salesclerk if you're at a loss.
3. Take another route and trust you instincts: Go for a spy tool kit or a logic skills game.
4. Be practical and shop for clothes or school supplies, or buy a bond for his education fund.
