Step 1
You can do this with your children when you put them to bed and then do it by yourself when you lay down. Go through all of the things you’re grateful for. Sometimes it’s not easy to think of. You’re sleeping in a bed first of all. My bed is very comfortable and I didn’t always have a bed so that is always one thing I am grateful for. Really think about how thankful you are for everything. Think about all of the people you love and think specifically about their good points and what good people they are. Do not let any negative thoughts come to your head. When they do don’t get upset about it, just start over and think of all the good things in your life.
-
Step 2
Once you’ve done this for a while you should be in a happy and calm state of mind. If you’re still awake think of perfect scenarios such as intimacy with your partner in paradise, sailing away in a yacht in calm crystal blue water or laying in a hammock in your back yard on a warm peaceful day.
-
Step 3
When you fall asleep to wonderful thoughts such as these your mind will concentrate on them for the remainder of your sleep. Not only will you not have nightmares but you will have exceptionally good dreams that will let you fully rest. You will wake up rejuvenated and ready for your day.
-
Step 4
If after following these steps you still have nightmares consider the other members of your household. I have found that nightmares generally come from some sort of negativity. Continual nightmares can be a sign that someone or something in the house isn’t right. Have a talk with your children, partner or roommates and see if someone is really depressed or otherwise unhappy.
