Laryngitis can be a very inconvenient symptom. Are there laryngitis natural cures that really work?

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Uh, oh, you’ve lost your voice again. This can be a very inconvenient symptom if you interact with the public on a daily basis. When the only noise you can manage is a high squeak, you can’t make much of an impression. Laryngitis is a medical term for inflammation of the larynx, or voice box. It’s most commonly caused by a virus and usually subsides within five to seven days even without treatment, although it can present some challenges during that week. Hoarseness can also be caused by allergies and voice overuse. Because most cases are caused by a virus, antibiotics are rarely used to treat the symptoms. Are there any laryngitis natural cures that work?

  2. Step 2

As difficult as it may be, the most effective laryngitis natural remedy is to limit use of your voice. Trying to use your voice to speak will only irritate the already inflamed vocal cords more. Even whispering should be avoided if possible as it causes the larynx to work even harder. Use the written word to communicate with your family and friends while you’re experiencing the symptoms of laryngitis. Avoid any type of respiratory irritant such as tobacco smoke and fumes as much as possible. These can only make the symptoms of laryngitis worse.

  3. Step 3

Another laryngitis natural remedy is to keep the respiratory tract moist. If you have a humidifier, keep in on and drink as much fluid as possible. A good fluid option is to brew herbal tea and add a teaspoon of honey. Sip on it slowly throughout the day. Switch over to chamomile tea with honey at night to help you get some rest. It can also help to stand in a hot shower for twenty minutes and breathe in the warm steam. The steam can help to keep the respiratory tract moist and reduce any secretions that can make the symptoms of laryngitis worse.

  4. Step 4

If you prefer a laryngitis natural remedy, you’re in luck. Studies have shown that antibiotics aren’t effective in treating laryngitis, nor are antihistamines. A laryngitis natural remedy that’s often advised for treatment of laryngitis is gargling. A study published in Nutrition Health Review showed that not only is gargling ineffective, it may further irritate the throat. Sucking on lemon drops may offer some benefit. You can also add lemon to warm tea to help relieve the symptoms of laryngitis.

  5. Step 5

The best laryngitis natural remedy is patience and the willingness to rest the voice. If your symptoms fail to resolve with a week to ten days, see your doctor. Sometimes hoarseness can be caused by other medical conditions such as gastroesophageal reflux or a tumor on the larynx which will need medical evaluation.
