Things You'll Need:
- IPOD or Other Suitable Distraction Device.
- Good Bank Roll
- Patience
- Knowledge
- Understanding of the Game
-
Step 1
Start by reading a few poker books to get the understanding of not only how the game works, Small Blind, Big Blind, Rake, Etc. Also read strategy books, about how to mix up your game and what hands you should be playing.
-
Step 2
Have a good Bank Roll when you first start out, it take a lot of time and money to learn things a book will never teach you. Take not of other players, see what they are doing, how they bet, etc... Most Players will buy in for a Rack, AKA 100 Dollars. Keep A budget, I usually don't spend more than 2 Racks, IF I don't win , I leave and come back when the game is better or go elsewhere.
-
Step 3
Beware of Maniacs, with such low limits any player can play anything , at any time. I have seen soooo many suck outs with 7-2 its Crazy. But it does happen. Your Only Defense to these guys is to raise pre-flop and play quality hands.
-
Step 4
Good 4-8 Limit Hands, Ace anything Suited, Suited Connectors within two. I go by the two-away rule, Suited Cards too Far apart aren't worth playing in the long run. Any Pocket Pairs, and any two face cards.
Everything else in my mind is garbage, yes you may see people win with 8 5 off suit, but in the long run they will lose, lose big. By limiting your starting hands to the above selection is a good way to stay ahead of the game. -
Step 5
Don't Over Value AK AQ, or Any Big Pocket Pairs like AA KK QQ, They simply are tough to win, yes they are favorites in Poker, but in low limit, like 4-8, you are usually in with more than 1 player, chances of them holding up without improving are slim. Yes you should raise before the flop to try to limit the field, but don't get mad, if 8 people call you. It DOES HAPPEN. ALL THE TIME.
-
Step 6
Set a limit on winning for yourself. Everyone Knows Poker can be like a roller coaster, up and down, up and down. So say you buy in for one rack, Your up to 300? Should you Leave, My Answer is Yes and No, If the table is still full of donkeys, yes you can win more, but they also can start to get lucky. So its up to you. I usually will get up to around 300 and play a couple more hands, if I lose I leave, take my winnings, If I win I keep playing until I feel the table or my luck has changed. DONT BE AFRAID TO LEAVE IT YOU LOSE A LITTLE. Most Players who try to stick around to make it back, usually go all the way broke.
-
Step 7
Good Luck, Don't Forget to Tip the Dealers at least a buck, its good Karma, if nothing else. Play at Casinos that give you Comps and have jackpot things going on, it makes for a good game. Especially if you play a lot, because in the long run you will be due for some money back!!!!!!
