Things You'll Need:
- caulking gun and caulk
- putty knife, scraping tool
- small pail of water
- rags or paper towels
- patience
-
Step 1
Using a putty knife or similar tool, remove and clean away any debris, loose glazing and chipping paint from window and wood, metal, etc. Replace any missing holding cleats, being careful not to break glass. Clean and dry area before applying silicone to assure proper adhesion for years of lasting results.
-
Step 2
Apply small bead of glazing caulk, about 1/4 inch wide. Dip finger in water and with a slow, steady swipe, smooth along length of bead. More than one smoothing attempt may be required to achieve acceptable results. Continue smoothing until proper results are achieved.
-
Step 3
If necessary, wipe clean while still wet and try again. Continue around entire window, one length at a time. Remember, practice makes perfect.
