How to Keep Water Off a Pool Cover

The pool cover is a vital resource to protect your pool and the water from the harsh winter elements. In order to preserve the longevity of the pool cover, water must routinely be drained from the cover. If too much water collects on the pool cover, it can weigh it down and tear. In order to prevent the cover from tearing you can drain the water using a submersible pump or siphon it with a garden hose.

Things You'll Need

• Garden hose
• Submersible pump

Instructions

Siphon

1. Unravel a garden hose. Place one end of the hose on top of the pool cover. Make sure the hose is completely submersed in water.

2. Connect the other end of the garden hose to your yard's water supply. Turn on the water and let it run for about one minute.

3. Turn off the water supply and quickly disconnect the hose from it. Drop the hose near your yard's nearest drain and the water will now back-flow out of the hose, draining your pool cover.

Submersible Pump

1. Plug in the submersible pump to the yard's nearest electrical outlet. Connect a garden hose to the pump.

2. Place the pump in the water and lead the garden hose to the yard's nearest drain to avoid flooding. Turn on the pump and allow the water to drain from the pool cover.

3. Move the pump around to drain most areas of the pool cover. Turn off the pump and disassemble when finished.
