  • You will need: 11 x 13 cake pan
  • 2-8” or 9” round pans
  • 3 or 4 boxes of cake mix
  • 2 tubs of chocolate icing
  • tub of vanilla icing
  • cardboard large enough to hold the finished cake.
  1. Step 1

Bake 11x13 and round cakes as directed on the box, allow to fully cool and remove from the pans.

  2. Step 2

    Shapes

Using a serrated knife, cut the large sheet cake into an oval shape for the monkey’s head. Cut one of the round cakes, in half, then round the inner edge to fit up against the sides of the ‘head’. For the second round cake, cut the cake separating the top and bottom, only using the top half, that will become the nose and mouth.

  3. Step 3

Use a little bit of icing to ‘glue’ the ears and mouth into place.

  4. Step 4

Use a little bit of the vanilla icing to make the eyes. Then mix half tub of chocolate icing with some vanilla to make a lighter brown color.

  5. Step 5

Use light brown color to ice the entire round nose and mouth area, and also a little bit in the center of each of the ears.

  6. Step 6

Ice the head and ears with chocolate icing. You can use a large star tip for texture or free hand works good too.

  7. Step 7

Using a little bit of chocolate icing (or black) add the details to the nose, mouth and eyes. Enjoy!

Tips & Warnings
  • Tips- Cake can be baked a few days before and kept wrapped tightly in the fridge. If you use the 9x13 cake pan, you will just have to cut down the rounds cakes to fit. To make it more exciting you can fill the sheet cake with a filling like chocolate pudding or something yummy!
