Several qualities are important when choosing the right watercolor paper

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Watercolor Paper
  1. Step 1

For the serious artist, especially if you plan on selling your art work you will want to choose a more higher quality than you would get from a regular store, their choices are limited. You will have to go to a craft store in order to find the kind of paper you are looking for.

  2. Step 2

Look for watercolor blocks, these are a block of watercolor sheets that are connected on all four sides, this is very handy since paper likes to curl up when it's wet. Because the adhesive goes around the whole piece of paper it holds it down so you don't have to look for some kind of object to hold the edge of your paper if it starts to curl up. (This has happened to me before, but not when using the watercolor block)

  3. Step 3

Feel of the paper, watercolor paper should be textured, it shouldn't be smooth like regular paper. Also, thickness; you want something that is going to be thick enough to handle being rubbed if you happen to make a mistake. Spend a little more money but the high quality you receive is well worth the investment.

  4. Step 4

The buyer of your next fantasy art work may want to know if it was painted on artist worthy paper! It's very important to be prepared.
