Things You'll Need:
- Money
- Friends
- Creativity

Step 1
How many gifts would you like to get. Some people buy a few small things, others one larger one. Some people get into small groups and chip in on something particularly large like the crib or a rocking chair.
-
Step 2
Set a budget. My rule for a baby shower is no more than fifty dollars, and that is if you have that kind of money. A more ideal price may be 20 or 30 dollars. I like to buy two gifts. Both about 10 or 15 dollars a piece. I buy one necessity and I buy one toy or game or the like
-
Step 3
Get together with other people who will be attending the shower. It will give you an idea of what other woman will buy so you can rule it out. Think of what the mother will need. She will not need 25 bottles but no diaper bag to put them in. I recommend a rear view mirror. It attaches to the mirror so you don't have to turn you head to key an eye on the little one while driving. Clothing is always good. Keep in mind that a baby grows so don't just buy newborn clothing. Other ideas: teething rings, pacifiers, formula (that stuff is liquid gold these days). Always keep in mind other child proofing items.

Step 4
Find a toy. Lots of people will get stuffed animals, and those can never hurt, but keep in mind real toys. Get educational gifts that appeal to a child's senses. They learn from touching, and seeing, their mouths are the key to learning their world at birth. Ever see a baby put everything possible into its mouth. Get musical toys that sing. Music will make a baby happy, and not drive the mother nuts like some noisemakers. Also think about items that are colorful, and smooth. Babies are attracted to objects that are smooth and round, nothing with sharp edges.
