Place unripened bananas into brown paper bag with an apple. The apple will give off ethylene gas which will cause the bananas to ripen. Tightly close the bag.

The next day, check for desired ripeness.
If bananas have ripened, move to STEP 3.
If the bananas have not ripened, do not remove them from the paper bag. Instead, tightly reclose the bag and continue to periodically monitor the ripening process.

Once the bananas have reached your desired level of ripeness, remove bananas from the bag. Enjoy your nutritious, delicious and affordable ripened bananas in foods and beverages such as banana bread, breakfast cereals, smoothies and more!

Tips & Warnings
  • Store bananas in the refrigerator to decrease the ripening speed. Banana skins may darken, but the fruit will still be edible.
  • Any color paper bag will do; however, I am nostalgic for brown paper bags. They remind me of my elementary school days!
