Step 1
The first step is to be completely sure of the questions that you have to ask the reader and not to give away too much information. One method that is very common, is called "cold reading" that is to ask leading questions to the client to get an idea of what they really want to hear and this has very little relationship to actually doing a reading for real.

Next be prepared to ask questions yourself, verify the information that you are being given by the reader, ie when they make statements, try to get them to clarify them. I see far too many readers being very general with clients and that is a waste of time for both the reader and the client.

Step 3
Finally before you even go to the reader, ask around from previous clients that you might know, or ask the reader for testimonials and phone numbers so that you can verify with others that they got a good reading from the advisor.
