If you have ever made a burger with ground turkey you know that sometimes the ground turkey meat does not always behave like ground beef. Depending on the fat content of the ground turkey, the patties can fall apart on the grill. But here is a quick and easy way to make perfect turkey burgers that are loaded with flavor.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 pound ground turkey lean
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tablespoon black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons minced garlic
  • 1/4 cup minced onion
  • 2 dashes of hot sauce
  • Foil
  • Non Stick Spray
  • A small plate to form patties
  1. Step 1

First combine all of the ingredients in a bowl. Make sure the egg is beaten well. This adds a bonding agent for the meat. It's similar to adding an egg to meatloaf. Make sure the onions are minced or at least very fine chopped. If you add too much "Large Chopped" things like onion, bell pepper etc, the patties may not hold together as well.

  2. Step 2

Separate the mix into equal portions. I use palm sized portions.

  3. Step 3

Pull out some foil, you are going to make squares of foil. The squares should be big enough to hold one burger. Make as many squares as needed for your portions. This recipe generally makes four decent sized burgers.

  4. Step 4

Place a ball of meat onto the small plate and press down to start making your patty. Press down while slowly rotating the plate. Use your fingers to form the edges.

  5. Step 5

Spray each piece of foil with none stick spray and place one patty on each piece of sprayed foil. If the patties stick to the plate use a flexible spatula to remove them.

  6. Step 6

Fire up you grill and get it warm. Place the burgers, foil and all - foil down, on the grill grate and start cooking. I usually sprinkle with a bit of parsley or some other seasoning I have laying around. When the burgers are firmed up, and look as if they are about half cooked - gently flip them so the foil side up. Be careful, you may get some flame up from drippings as you turn. Once turned, gently peel the foil from the burger. Your burger will hold together fine. Serve hot on your favorite bread or bun with your choice of toppings. I use wheat bread, salad greens or lettuce, thin sliced sweet onion and Dijon mustard. Enjoy.

Tips & Warnings
  • The foil tip is perfect for beef burgers as well.
  • Be careful of flame ups as you turn the burgers as the foil will hold drippings. You can poke the foil with a fork, or fold an edge down to allow drippings to drain as you cook.
