Write something for Mom

Mother's Day usually means flowers, a card, and a dinner out. Sure, treat your mom to those things, but take an extra step to show your Mother in writing that she's special to you. Here are ways that don't cost much but will create treasured memories for any mother on Mother's Day.

Instructions

    • 1

Get colored paper and cut it into slips. For several weeks or longer, write down something you appreciate about your mother on the slips of paper. Present them to her in a pretty box on Mothers' Day. Use your best handwriting. She will love reading through them whenever she needs a boost.

Write a poem for your mother. If you are inexperienced with poetry writing, try an online poetry generator. You fill in some blanks and it puts it in poetry form. (see the link below)
Print the poem out with flowing script from your computer and put it in a frame. You can also post it online as a tribute to her.

Write a memory piece for your mother. Think of an incident from your childhood or a special moment you shared when you were an adult. For examples of this type of essay, I've included links to my essays about my Mom. (see links below) You can print this out to give her or post it on a website like Our Echo where I posted mine. It specializes in family memory writing.

Ask your mother's friends or extended family to write little memory pieces of times they spent with her. Collect these together into a scrapbook using pretty paper, ribbons, copies of old photos and other adornments. She will treasure it.

Several months in advance, search online for Mother's Day contests. Often there are contests where you write a short essay on "Why my mother is special," or a similar theme. Just search using the keywords "Mother's Day + contest." Your mother will beam with pride if you win.

Some people may think these ideas are too 'mushy', but after recently almost losing my own mom....the personal touch, by far, is the gift of a lifetime for this Mother's Day.
