Step 1
Take a medium or large sized bowl (use one you don't care about that much..a disposable one would be great) and put in some slices of fruit. I suggest using fruit that has ripened, overriped would be better.
-
Step 2
Add in a bit of vinegar, balsamic works best, by just dripping it over the fruit to allow the fruit to soak it up (this prevents the flies from drowning in the vinegar.
-
Step 3
Cover the bowl with plastic wrap, covering it tightly so that there's no waves in the plastic wrap. Be sure to secure it tightly to the sides of the bowls as well. You can tape the sides down to make sure they're secure if you prefer.
-
Step 4
Use a fork to poke small holes into the plastic wrap. Be sure not to use anything bigger, or this will not work.
-
Step 5
Leave the bowl out so that the fruit flies have easy access. They will be able to enter the holes, but won't be able to exit them. Once the bowl is filled with the fruit flies, bring them outside to somewhere you don't mind releasing them. Or you can just leave the bowl outside somewhere and leave them outside if you're concerned with them bothering you.Fruit flies don't live long and as long as there's enough fruit in there they'll be perfectly happy.
