Now is the time to get a job as a census taker. The U.S. Census Center is currently accepting applications. Most jobs are in the field interviewing people, although some administrative and managerial jobs are also available. All jobs are temporary, and most will last from 5-10 weeks.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Determine if you qualify. You must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident with a green card. You must be at least 18 years old and have a social security number. In addition, you'll have to pass an employment test.

  2. Step 2

Schedule an employment test. Log on to the U.S. Census Center website, or call their toll free number 1-866-861-2010 to find a testing center near you.

  3. Step 3

Fill out the Employment Eligibility Verification form. Make sure you have the appropriate form(s) of ID to bring with you when you go to the testing center.

  4. Step 4

Fill an out application form. You can download it from their website.

  5. Step 5

Prepare for the test. Take the online practice test. It tests basic math, clerical and reasoning skills.

  6. Step 6

Go to the testing center on the day of your test. Be sure to bring proper identification.

Tips & Warnings
  • Veterans may get preferential consideration
  • U.S. Citizens are given preference for these jobs, but opportunities are available for eligible non-citizens where citizens are not available or in areas where bilingual workers are needed.
