Things You'll Need:
- self-control
-
Step 1
Eat dinner. A filling meal works to absorb alcohol as you introduce it into your system by allowing your body to slowly metabolize it. By eating dinner, you limit the amount of alcohol in your bloodstream at one time.
-
Step 2
Alternate alcohol drinks with non-alcoholic drinks. Water is best to dilute alcohol, but any non-alcoholic beverage will do just fine. This increases the amount of time between those toxic drinks and decreases the potency of (waters down) the alcoholic ones.
-
Step 3
Go easy on the snack foods at the party. Snack foods for parties like potato chips and popcorn are often high in sodium. High sodium in your body increases your thirst, and you are more likely to grab an 18th beer, even if you don't really want one.
-
Step 4
Avoid that big bowl of mystery punch. Number one, you have no idea how much alcohol is in it, and number two, it's hard to count how many drinks you've had when you have a full glass, then half a glass, then two thirds of a glass... same goes for kegs with counting your drinks.
-
Step 5
Occupy yourself in some other way. Make new friends, help the host refresh the snacks or dance (only if other people are dancing, otherwise you'll be the sober person that everyone thinks is the drunk idiot!)
