Keep 5 Basic Ingredients in your Pantry

When every penny counts, start saving in your kitchen with these super easy tips and ideas.
This article is for the savers who are digging deep in their pockets to pay the bills every month.... using these tips you will save your money.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Use your Oven for Double Duty
Any time you are using your oven, always use that heat to your advantage. If you are preparing a meatloaf, throw in some potatoes wrapped in foil or a veggie packet w/seasonings and wrap in foil. Even after your meal is ready, use the heat to make some cupcakes or warming up a pie.
Also, you can prepare extras for a meal later in the week.

  2. Step 2

    Paper Towels
These are some times over looked as a expensive item. Paper towels are very expensive. If a household used two rolls a week, and the cost is $3.50 a week. Well, in one year that adds up to $150.00.
Go to your local discount stores and stock up on cloth dish towels. Always keep cloth dish towels handy and the paper towels in the cabinet.

  3. Step 3

    Top 5 Meal Stretchers
Always have these five items in your pantry. (1) Pasta; can always be a main dish with some other ingredients you will have a great meal. Try added some shredded or diced chicken, sauteed green beans, some red potatoes(already prepared) and some red and green peppers. (2)Canned Salmon; a very inexpensive source of protein that goes great on top of salads, salmon patties or stir into pasta. (3)Frozen Veggies; These are great for casseroles or stir-fry.

(4)Rice; try instant plain rice, you can add your own ingredients and seasoning. You have a lot of choices to chose from, wild, yellow or try boxed rice with its own seasoning and add chicken, great meal with a fresh Romain salad. (5)Canned beans; always have several types of beans in your pantry. Once again there are a lot of choices, use all to your advantage. Add to soups, chili or top of salad. You can also blend beans into dips.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always display fruits and veggies, they are more likely to be used
  • Always rinse fruits and veggies as soon as you get home
  • Always use older products first, rotate and watch for over buying
  • Purchase large containers of oil, hopefully on sale, and by using a funnel, pour into a small squirt bottle.
