How to Find Cheap Refurbished Laptop Computers
Refurbished laptop computers are sometimes computers that were only slightly defective before being returned and repaired, so don't expect uniformly low prices when shopping refurbished laptops. Instead, shop online and brick-and-mortar retailers with large stocks of refurbished laptops and have a large pool of computers that interest you. Be prepared to bargain hard -- and to walk away from any less-than-stellar price.

1
Peruse online listings, such as local-based listings on Craigslist and national and international listings on eBay. Although eBay prices run lower due to the sheer amount of competition each seller faces, Craigslist policy dictates meeting the seller in person before completing the transaction, which affords you the ability to test out your laptop before you take it home.

2
Shop directly from laptop manufacturers, such as Dell, HP or Toshiba. Visit company retail stores if one exists in your city or visit the website of your preferred manufacturer to browse available refurbished stock. The more refurbished laptops a site or store sells, the less they can reasonably expect to charge for each.

Ask IT managers at your school or workplace if any computers your employer, school district or university uses are no longer needed but can be refurbished for second sale. If a computer is available for purchase, work out a fair price and payment schedule with a supervisor in the IT department.

Visit a large electronics retailer like BestBuy and Ultimate Electronics to browse the selection of refurbished laptops each offers. As is the case when buying directly from manufacturers, the larger inventory a seller has to get rid of, the less he can afford to charge for each individual item. Use especially large inventories as a bargaining point.
