You're at that party and you want to do something the crowd will enjoy? How about singing Take Me Out to the Ball Game, but one beat off?

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A Sense of Timing
  • A Halfway Decent Voice
  1. Step 1

So you're the funny one right, and people sort of expect you to do something different. Try this song and you'll have the crowd scratching their heads and reaffirming your weird status!

  2. Step 2

First of all you need to actually know the song, Take Me Out to the Ball Game. You need to know the words by heart and the timing so you can sing it.
Whether you understand music or not, a song written in the key of C is probably the easiest way I can explain what you'll have to do. The C scale has 8 notes, you know like Doe a deer a female deer, Ray, a drop of golden sun! If you number the notes 1 to 8, 8 is the same note as 1 except it is an octave higher or the eighth note up from it.
Normally the first line of the song goes as follows; 1-8-6-5-3-5-2 and for those notes you would sing the first line which is Take me out to the ball game. The timing of the line if you were counting would be like this; 1-2-3-4-5-6-1-2-3-4-5-6. Each syllable is sung on the note beginning with Take on beat one. Let me just give you the usual word to beat timing. Take=1(2)- me=3 - out=4 - to=5 - the=6 - ball=7(8,9,) - game=10(11,12)
With the funny version, you're going ADD two notes up front, so the line will be; 3-2-1-8-6-5-3-5-2. We added 3 and 2 and what you'll need to do is alter the wording to adjust to the extra notes. So you'll sing it like this; Take=3 - me=2 - out=1 - to=8 - the=6 - ball=5 - game=3 --
Take=5 - me=2. You see, we finished the first line of words ahead of the notes, so we then stuck in the first two words of the second line so that for the rest of the song we'll always be singing the first words of the next line at the tail end of the line before.

  3. Step 3

Here is how it would look if you were singing it the funny way.
Take me out to the ball game. Take me
out to the crowd, buy me
some peanuts and crackerjack. I don't care
if I ever get back. So let's root, root, root
for the home team. If they don't
    win, it's a shame. For it's
one, two, three strikes your out at the old ball game. Hum,hum, hum.
The three hums coincide with the last three notes of the song, which are 6,7,8. Once you reach the end of the words your still ahead of the melody, so the hums finish the tune for you.

  4. Step 4

It takes some practice to get it right, but once you do it's a lot of fun to watch the reactions that people have when you sing it!
Good luck with it and I hope that it helps your weird status that your friends have come to know and love.
