How to Make Fabric Wallets

Fabric wallets can be made in a variety of sizes. Larger wallets can be used to store coupons or makeup. Smaller wallets might be used for coin purses or a place to tuck your credit cards. When you alter the following instructions to make a different sized wallet, remember to make adjustments for the dimensions lost with each ¼-inch seam.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut two rectangular pieces of fabric, each 7 1/2 inches by 8 inches. One piece of fabric will be used for the lining of the wallet, and the other piece of fabric will be used for the outside of the wallet.

    • 2

Place the two pieces of fabric together, with the wrong sides of the fabric on the outside and the right sides together.

    • 3

Sew the two pieces together, stitching up the two 8-inch sides, and one 7 1/2-inch side with a ¼-inch seam.

    • 4

Turn the wallet right side out, and press.

    • 5

Turn in the seams on the opening edge 1/4 inch and press. Stitch this end closed.

    • 6

Pull the Velcro apart. Glue one strip along the shorter edge of the wallet, on the lining side. Glue the other strip along the opposite edge, also on the lining side, making sure to center both pieces. Allow the glue to dry before going to the next step.

    • 7

Fold the wallet in half (lining side in), and attach the Velcro pieces. Stitch the right and left sides together, using a ¼-inch seam.
