How to Make Flubber with Borax

If you have ever seen "The Absent-Minded Professor," you may think Flubber is a magical substance that makes people jump higher. That, of course, is just in the movies. Flubber is, however, a magical substance made with borax that will entertain children for hours with its slimy texture that feels great on the hands. As a family project, making Flubber is quick and easy, using just a few household supplies, and is sure to invoke laughter from even the most solemn child.

Things You'll Need

• 4 oz. white glue
• Food coloring
• Glitter (optional)
• 1 teaspoon 20 Mule Team Borax
• 2 mixing bowls
• Wooden spoon

Instructions

1. Pour 4 oz. of white glue into a medium bowl. Add a few drops of food coloring and mix well with a wooden spoon. Glitter can be added if desired.

2. Dissolve 1 teaspoon of Mule Team Borax in 1 cup of warm water in a bowl. Stir to dissolve. You can purchase Mule Team Borax in the laundry aisle; it's sold as a laundry booster.

3. Pour the glue mixture into the borax solution. Stir constantly with a wooden spoon to mix completely. The mixture will thicken and create a large blob.

4. Knead the blob by hand until it is smooth and dry. Divide the Flubber between children and enjoy its gooey texture.

• Adjust the thickness by adding more borax to thicken or more water for slimier goo.
