How to Make Business Cards on a Mac
Something interesting has happened over the past decades: a class war erupted between PC owners and folks ready to fall on their swords before they give up their beloved Macs. Work on an Apple for even a short time, and you understand why there are so many fans. A terrific operating system and smooth program interfaces make it easy to design your own business cards, even without card-making software. All that's required is Microsoft Word or Adobe InDesign and a little time, and you'll be producing business cards like a pro.
Things You'll Need
- Word processing or page layout software
- Printer
- Card stock
- Image or logo (optional)
Instructions

1
Boot your Mac and launch your favorite word processing or design software to start the job.
-
2
Open a new (vertical or portrait) document with two columns and 1/2-inch margins on all four sides plus plus a 1/2-inch gutter.
-
-
3
Insert or drag one 2-inch-high and 3 1/2-inch-wide text box into the document to create the shape of one business card.
-
4
Drag or insert an image onto the card. You may want to place a logo, a photo or a small graphic symbolizing your business on the card, though this isn't a required element. Adjust the image to leave room for the text.
-
5
Keystroke any combination of the following to place contact information on the card: your name, address, a company name, email or Web address and phone number(s). Add data unique to your business operation, such as store hours.
-
6
Highlight all of the type on the card and select a single font for the text. If your company doesn't already have a signature font, choose one that's easy to read, such as Ariel or Times Roman. Use a script font as an accent--for instance, the company name or the card owner's name adds contrast and interest if it's set in a script font.
-
7
Move the text and the image (if added) around until you like the arrangement. Add a background color, or change one word or the business name to another color to make it pop. Spell-check the text on the card.
-
8
Hold down the Shift key, select both the text and the image, and then choose "Group" from the pull-down menu. This command will merge the elements, allowing you to move or duplicate them as one unit.
-
9
While the card is grouped and selected, make nine copies using either the duplicate or the step-and-repeat command. Move the cards into place, stacking five each on either side of the center gutter. Adjust to make certain all 10 cards fit uniformly into the live area of the page.
-
10
Print several pages of the 10-card document on heavy cover stock. Use a paper cutter to trim the 1/2 inch from the four sides, then make two cuts down the middle to remove the 1/2-inch gutter. Trim paper to wind up with 10 business cards.
