How to Remove a Snowmobile Drive Belt

While screaming down the trail on your snowmobile at a speed of 80 mph you suddenly hear a thumping sound and then lose throttle power. On the side of the trail you open up the hood and see that your drive belt is damaged. You have a spare belt, but you realize you don't know how to change the belt. This is a scenario that is often seen on the trails, but you can avoid it happening to you. Changing a belt is extremely simple, and knowing how to do it can have you riding in minutes instead of waiting for help.

Instructions

1. 

   Open the hood and locate the spare belt. Open the side cowling on the belt side of the snowmobile.

2. Remove the protective belt guard. Most sleds have a wing nut and a pin. Unscrew the wing nut first. Then pull the pin out and remove the guard.

3. Apply your parking brake.

4. Grab the belt on top and pull it toward the rear of the sled, angling slightly to the left. As you pull the belt it will open up your sheaves and the belt will peal off.
