How to Spot Fake Tennis Shoes

Tennis shoes can cost you well over $100, depending on the exact shoes that you want to purchase. As a way to save money, consider buying tennis shoes either online or from a street fair. You may find a great deal on tennis shoes at these places, but you will need to shop wisely. Many times, tennis shoes that are being sold at an extremely low price are not authentic. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Research the tennis shoes you want to purchase. By knowing what the authentic tennis shoes look like, you will be better able to spot fake tennis shoes. You can find pictures of these shoes either on the official company website or in a catalog.

    • 2

Examine the logo(s). If the logo contains a word such as "Gucci," make sure that the word is spelled correctly and that the lettering is authentic. Sometimes logos, such as the Nike "Swoosh," may be either too long or too wide on fake tennis shoes.

    • 3

Know where your tennis shoes are produced. If the tag in the tennis shoes says "Made in Thailand," and you know the authentic shoes are produced in Italy or China, you can be sure that those tennis shoes are fake.

    • 4

Look for irregularities. Authentic tennis shoes will be symmetric, without one side slouching or caving in. A shoe that isn't symmetric was most likely made with a cheaper material and thus is fake.

    • 5

Check out the stitching on both the outside and the inside. Make sure that the stitches are the same color and size. Look for loose stitches or zigzags in the stitching pattern. If the stitching does not look precise, the shoes are probably fake.

    • 6

Wear the tennis shoes before you buy them, if at all possible. Fake tennis shoes will often feel less comfortable than authentic tennis shoes. If you're buying off the street or at a market, and the seller doesn't allow you to try on the tennis shoes, walk away without the shoes. The seller is probably aware that you're onto his scam.

Tips & Warnings

  • Purchase tennis shoes either directly from the company or from a trustworthy store. This way, you will know that the shoes are not fake.
