How to Put Red Extensions in Hair
Red hair extensions add color and intrigue to your hair. Red extensions complement many hair colors nicely. Deep, auburn red works well to highlight various shades of brown, while bright red brings vibrance to black, blonde, or gray hair. Glue-in extensions add color throughout hair and last as long as six weeks. Clip-in extensions are usually smaller and can be applied in groups or individually to add varying amounts of color. Clip-in extensions need to be taken out the same day they are applied, but are much easier to put in and take out. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Purchase the appropriate extensions for your hair. If you want to keep extensions in for a long time, you should use human hair extensions. Human hair extensions can be found online or at many beauty supply stores. If you are using extensions for a short period of time, synthetic extensions are a good, cost-effective option. Synthetic extensions are also available online and at many beauty supply stores. Buy scissors to trim the ends of the extensions, and make sure to buy glue remover if you are using glue-in extensions.

2
Prepare for the extensions by washing your hair. Don't use conditioner, and avoid any styling products that may make your hair greasy or oily. Dry your hair completely.

3
To apply hair extensions, clip all hair on the top of your head, leaving a one-inch width of hair at the base of your neck.
-
4
If you are using glue-in extensions, trim the extensions to the width of the horizontal cross-section of hair at the nape of your neck. Apply a thin line of glue along the top of the extension and press the extension onto the top of the horizontal width of hair. Don't apply directly to the scalp, as this won't allow the extension piece to move freely.

5
For clip-in extensions, simply apply pressure to the clip to open it. Clip the comb in by pushing the forks of the comb down into the horizontal width of hair and applying pressure to shut the clip. Since combs usually come in thinner pieces than glue-in extensions, you may want to line several clip-in pieces next to each other.
-
6
Let down the rest of your hair from where it is clipped on top of your head. This will cover the extension piece.
-
7
If you are using clip-in extensions or thin pieces of glue-in extensions, comb your hair up toward the front and apply extensions in the same manner as before. This will add more color throughout the hair.
-
8
Trim the extensions to the same length as the rest of your hair so that it blends in and gives a highlighting effect.
-
9
Curl or straighten extensions as desired.
-
10
Clip-in extensions will need to be removed the same day that they are applied, but glue-in extensions can last for weeks if properly cared for. Shampoo, condition and dry hair as usual, taking care not to comb through the base of the extensions as this will loosen extension pieces.
