Things You'll Need:
- Sturdy flowers that will not fall apart easily
- Flower preservative
- Floral wire
- Floral tape
- Ribbon
- Bouquet collar (optional)
-
Step 1
Choose flowers that are sturdy but elegant. You do not want them to fall apart as you are walking. Lilies, roses and carnations all make good bouquets. Tulips do not.
-
Step 2
Select a color scheme. For a more elegant bouquet, use only one or two colors or one color in many shades. For a less formal bouquet, select several different brightly colored flowers. Choose one flower to be the predominant flower and one or two other accent or filler flowers.
-
Step 3
Choose filler material. Baby's breath, ferns and other green foliage work well to fill out a bouquet. You can even use long grasses for an unusual twist.
-
Step 4
Soak the flowers in a preservative for several hours. This will ensure that your bouquet will stay fresh longer.
-
Step 5
Arrange the flowers. Start by placing your main flowers in the center and surrounding them with your secondary flowers. Then, add fillers in the spaces in between.
-
Step 6
Secure the flowers together by gathering the stems in a bunch and wrapping floral wire loosely around them, all the way from the bottom to the top. Cut the stems straight across the bottom so that they are all at an even length, then cover the wire and the stems with floral tape, again running from the bottom to the top.
-
Step 7
Insert the stems into a bouquet collar and tie a ribbon around the neck of the collar to finish off the bouquet.
