Design Your Own Gibson Guitar

Gibson is arguably the most iconic name in the world of guitars. The most popular Gibson guitar is the Les Paul, a model that has been played by Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Kirk Hammett and Carlos Santana as well as countless others. You can design you own Gibson Les Paul by noting the various components of the guitar and then customizing each one to your liking.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Decide on the finish and color of the body. You can choose a solid color or go for the sunburst look.

  2. Step 2

Decide on the pickup configuration. Most Les Pauls feature two pickups, but you can use three if you'd like. You can also choose between humbuckers, open-coils and P-90s. If you'd like, you can include a pick guard below the pickups.

  3. Step 3

Choose the wood and inlay style for the neck. Choose a wood that complements the body color and then add dot, trapezoid or block inlays.

  4. Step 4

Customize your guitar further in your selection of volume and tone knobs, a bridge and tuning keys. Generally, the guitar will look best if you match certain components. For example, you could select gold humbucking pickups, a gold bridge and gold tuning keys. However, it's your design so feel free to go wild if you want!

  5. Step 5

Put the finishing touches on your design by selecting a binding for the body and neck. You can even extend the binding to the headstock if you'd like.
