How to Make Ribbon Hair Scrunchies
Hair scrunchies have become very stylish. Inexpensive and highly functional, hair scrunchies protect your hair from damage a rubber band might cause. Besides holding your hair together, you will find that a ribbon hair srunchie can make a simple ponytail more attractive, and with a little extra manipulation, you'll find you can create an attractive bun as well. If you already have a few hair scrunchies, you might want to add a few more to your collection.
Things You'll Need
- Sewing machine
- Two 6 1/2 inch long silk or satin ribbons, 2 plus inches wide
- One 7 inch long piece of white elastic, narrow width
- Spool of thread to match the ribbon
- Sewing needle
- Small safety pin
Instructions
-
-
1
Take the two 6 1/2 inch pieces of ribbon and place one on top of the other with the right side of both ribbons facing each other.
-
2
Sew the two ribbons together, along one 6 1/2 inch side.
-
-
3
Open the ribbons and fold them in half so the right sides of the ribbons are on the inside and the ends of the ribbons meet. If you hold the ends together, you should have a circle of ribbon.
-
4
Sew 1/4-inch in from the edge of the ribbon to create the circle of ribbon.
-
5
Fold the ribbon over so the long edges lie on top of each other and the seams are on the inside. Sew along the long open edge and leave a 1-inch space open.
-
6
Insert the safety pin into one end of the 7-inch piece of elastic and close the safety pin.
-
7
Feed the safety pin and elastic into the open space, and bring the safety pin out from where it was inserted.
-
8
Remove the safety pin and stitch the ends of the elastic together.
-
9
Using your sewing needle and thread, stitch the opening closed.
