How to Make Your Own Pixie Shoes

1
Draw a sketch of your shoe. It should cover the ankle, with the front and back of the ankle being about 1/2 inch higher than the sides. The shoe should cover the top of the foot, and the toe should end in a point that points upward. Think about any embellishments you want on the shoe, such as sequins or pieces of cut-out felt.

2
Cut along one long fold of the grocery bag. Cut along one of the folded edges of the bottom of the grocery bag. Lay the bag flat on the floor. Place the wearer's foot on the grocery bag and trace the outline. You can also use one of the wearer's shoes to do this. Cut out the outline and set aside.

3
Measure the circumference of the wearer's ankle. Measure the width of the instep by placing the end of the measuring tape along the inner edge of the foot and wrapping it over the foot to the outside edge. Measure the length of the foot. Measure the length of the ankle, extending the measurement from the bottom of the heel to as far up the ankle as you want the shoe to go. Write all these measurements down.
-
4
Draw a vertical line measuring your ankle length as calculated in your measurements. Place the ruler at the top of this line and draw a horizontal line measuring 1/2 of your ankle width. This horizontal line should start at the tip of the ankle length line and extend to the right. Place the ruler at the bottom of the ankle length line and draw a horizontal line measuring your foot length. This line should also extend to the right. Place a vertical line at the end of the foot length measuring half of your instep measurement. This line should be drawn upwards in the same direction as the ankle length. Draw another horizontal line from the tip of the 1/2 instep measurement back to the ankle line. Draw a vertical line from the tip of the 1/2 ankle measurement down to the foot length line.

Look at your drawing. You should have an outline that looks like a boxy boot. This is how your shoe looks like from the side. Now, draw over these lines, making the curved line that represents the ankle, as well as a curved upward toe. Make sure all your new lines are outside the perimeter of the boxed outline you've created. Cut out your outline.

6
Fold your felt in half. Pin the pattern of your shoe silhouette to your felt. Cut out your pieces, leaving a 1-inch seam allowance on all sides. Unfold your felt and place the outline from the bottom of the foot on the felt. Pin to the felt. Cut out, leaving a 1-inch seam allowance all around. Pin the sides of the shoe silhouette together, using a 1/2-inch seam allowance. Pin the bottom edges of the shoe to the edges of the foot bottom outline. Try it on the wearer's foot. It should be quite loose. Gently adjust to fit the foot by taking out one pin, pinching the fabric a bit further in. Pin it again. Be careful not to prick the foot.

7
When the fit is perfected, make sure the wearer can still comfortably slip the shoe on and off. Sew the bottom edges of the shoe to the edges of the sole. Trim the seams so that they are 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch. Sew the shoe sides together. Remove pins. Make second shoe in same manner of the first. Decorate with chosen embellishments, attaching with fabric glue. Cut out circles of safety, non-slip coating and glue to the bottom of the slipper. Allow to dry.
