How to Make Homemade Fireplace Glass Cleaner

The cozy warmth of a fire in the fireplace took away the bitter chill on those cold and frosty winter days. Many families have sat by the fire in their homes to enjoy its crackling sound and vibrant warmth.
As with every touchable surface in our homes, the fireplace glass covers become riddled with fingerprints, grime and even soot. Making a simple, non-toxic solution of common household products will polish away the dull haze of your fireplace glass doors.

Things You'll Need:

• Spray bottle
• Water
• Vinegar
• Lemon juice or ammonia
• Baking soda
• Cleaning cloths

1. Pre-treat your fireplace glass by rubbing plain baking soda over its surface. It will act as both an abrasive and a cleaner to remove any soot or grime. Wipe away.

2. Fill a spray bottle three-fourths full with warm water. Add 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda, 1/2 teaspoon of vinegar, and 1/2 teaspoon of lemon juice or ammonia. Cover and shake well until the baking soda is dissolved.

3. Spray the cleaner onto the surface of the fireplace glass. Scrub with a cloth and wipe away the dirt. Repeat if necessary. Clean both sides of the glass for a clean, crisp look.

4. Buff the glass to a shine with a clean cloth. Store the excess spray cleaner for future fireplace glass cleanups.

Tips & Warnings

• If you do not have all of the ingredients, any one of them will work. However, all the ingredients make a stronger solution. Clean the rest of the fireplace with this mixture and buff away the moisture.
• This product is not a hazard to children but keep them away from the cleaning area.
